The following is a summary of Refuge Church’s beliefs. Click here to view our full Statement of Faith.
God
There is one and only one living and true God who eternally exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The triune God is the creator, sustainer, ruler, and redeemer of the universe.
Scripture
The Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts. It is fully authoritative and our only absolutely trustworthy guide for faith and practice.
Man
While God has created man and woman in His own image, all have fallen short of God’s glory because of sin. Therefore, mankind’s greatest need is redemption from sin.
Salvation
For man’s salvation, Jesus Christ the eternal Son of God assumed a fully human nature. He lived a perfect, sinless life, then died on the cross as a substitute for sinners. He rose from the dead and ascended into heaven where he is exalted at the right hand of God the Father. He will return in glory to judge the world and to complete his redemptive mission.
Salvation is the glorious display of God’s sovereign goodness and grace, by which he converts sinners, drawing them to Himself. It is only by grace through faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ and repentance from sin can one be reconciled to God and thus saved.
The Church
A New Testament church of Jesus Christ is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers. The New Testament speaks also of the church as the Body of Christ, which includes all who have trusted in Jesus alone for salvation.
Last Things
Jesus will one day return to earth and fully establish His kingdom. There will be the resurrection of the dead and the final judgment. Heaven and hell are real places—the former being a place of eternal blessedness for those who have been saved by grace through faith in Christ; the latter a place of eternal suffering for those who have not trusted in Christ for salvation.
